New Secret Cartoon: Roll With It

here is my new secret cartoon. It took me a couple of days to finish. It is loose like the other cartoon, but a bit longer, plus i had to waste time looking for and editing sfx. (click on it to play/stop)

I started it out with a silly walk cycle and then just made up some bullshit from there. I was trying to do some tyer-esque weirdness for some parts and just fun shit in general. This cartoon is a break from the larger cartoon project i am/have been working on. I plan to make maybe one more of these or maybe not, before i take on all the mega big cartoon projects i have to finish. I like being productive though, and it's fun to animate random shit here and there and not fucking labor over boring inbetweens, because you know i don't have koreans doing them for me.

bla bla bla bla

Hey David,

The video isn't playing for me. Kind of a bummer. When you animate, do you have the peg bar on the top or the bottom?

Wow, that's amazing David!! Those walk cycles look great...funny and solid. I can't wait to see what else you're working on. No way I'm showing you my "animation" now, though. :)

Hey...that was really cool...Excellent sense of timing, especially after they collide ( his up & down eye movement). Very well done!

Well if this was created in Flash (I don't know, I can't view it) then nevermind. But if you have ever made traditonal animation, do you have the peg bars on the top or on the bottom.

wow, I love the timing! His fighting to keep his balance is great stuff. Her walk cycle has great weight and character. You don't need to inbetween this, or colour it for that matter, you could make it like Christopher Crumpet and say its an artistic choice. You'd need to do a polished version of yourself sitting down to draw it though.:)

Funny cartoon man.. You have a cool looseness to your anim.

*But just for some construction critism.. you think the whole Bob Clampett/John Krisfalusi way of drawing's been done before? And what's with the sexist chick? Do all animators and gamers like drawing these over-the-top girls?

Say it aint' so..

i'm lovin it. that guy is so silly. awesome.

Dude.. you can animate whomever you want, i dont care. If you like bigg titty girls because they're "fun" to draw, then who am I to stop you.

And you sound like a smart guy.. i just figured since there's so many different ways of drawing girls, you'd find some "unique" way to animate a funny girl walk. (*by the way, big tits are probably not the only "bouncy body parts" to both men and women.. if you know what i mean)

I'm not familiar with Jim Tyeresque animation(*as i didnt really pay attention to my anim. history class back in college, or wanted to) but even to the most untrained eye, ask anyone you know to tell you this short doesn't remind them if even "a little bit" of Spumco.

I'm not dissin' you man.. you're obviously a talented guy. But in alot of your posts you come off sounding kinda arragant and cocky(*Do your friends dig that??)

You know what?.. I'll even give you my name for you. And I dont wanna start a "war of words" here either, but I'm a fan of good talk and even better critism(*both ways).

If you read my posts, and i am assuming you do, you would have noticed that these little cartoons i am doing are breaks from bigger projects, that is they are not that serious, that is i didnt put much time or thought into them and they are "mental breaks" from the bigger stuff i am working on. So i apologize if i didn't meet you expectations for what a cartoon should be or include. I am sure i can come up with a unique way to animate a funny girl walk if i wanted to or applied myself, but instead i took the easy way out and animated a generic sexy girl walk, so again i am sorry. I am not getting paid to do this shit.

And as for my posts sounding "cocky" i suppose the only one that you could really say that about was my hipster diatribes, and that really has nothing to do with my cartoons and more about the lame subculture i think deserves a good lambasting. I think i when i say "crappy" and "bullshit" and "crappy" etc. in my posts i am acknowledging that the shit i do isn't that great, and yes i am modest about my work. Maybe you mean cynical, or asshole, and i'll take those, but i don't really see myself coming off as some hotshot, if i do it is a joke.

I have a better idea. How about you watch these 30 second Jim Tyer clips from the 1940s and then tell DAVID if they dont look a little bit like Spumco's cartoons:
Knight Anchor
Mighty Take
Mr. Average

While you're at it, tell me if this Tex Avery Girl doesn't look like every Spumco Girl you've ever seen:
Indian Girl

I'm hoping you're now seeing that it is lame to pull the "it's a spumco drawing!" card when Spumco copies a lot of old cartoon designs.

Maybe you can start varying your accusations by saying "it's a Walter Lantz drawing!" or "it's a Jim Tyer drawing!" Because, you know what? I see more influence from them in David's cartoon than I do from Spumco.

Thanx ryan.. for your words of wisdom. I really do appreciate it.

I dont consider myself a cartoon fanatic(even if i went to school or it) but it's great to hear people have a passion. You guys abviously love cartoons and i commend you for it.

Myself, i used to love cartoons.. until they got repatitious and boring. All i'm seeing on most animators blog sites are the same styles ripped off eachother. I dont know about you guys, but that's pretty boring. (*I guess that's why i'd rather be in illustration, but alas... animation pays my bills)

And thanx David for your reply. I wasnt sure what you were gonna' say, but you spoke like a gentleman, and were honest. You can whatever you wanna say about hipster people.. they are actually kinda funny...

But most of all, keep up your work. You've got a good fludidity and confidence to your line.

All the best.
